Can someone give me a practical introduction to multivariate analysis

I have some data which effectively contains lots of "input variables" and several "outcomes". What I am trying to do is find a way to mathematically deconstruct which of the input variables is most responsible for diving the positive outcomes that we want more of and which drive the negative ones we wish to avoid.

I suspect multivariate analysis can help - but don't know enough to be sure.

I'm looking for some sort of Skype session - a bit like a tutorial - and to work on some sample data I can provide to see if this approach can help.
