Purpose of the study
The Propose of this research is to investigate the impacts of ethanol production (if any) on sugar industry in the UK and Pakistan as well as necessary changes that could be made to reduce or eliminate these effects.
Aim of the investigation
Main aim is to investigate the impact of ethanol production on sugar industry in two countries (UK and PK) considering their different feedstock’s, market conditions, regulatory arrangements, and social conditions.
Specific objectives
i) To analyze the impacts of ethanol industry on sugar production in UK and Pakistan while providing various changes that could be made in the production of ethanol to reduce/eliminate the negative effects associated with the sugar industry
ii) To analyze the factors of change in ethanol production in UK and Pakistan. Further analyze how these changes in ethanol production in UK and Pakistan have on sugar industry and sugar based industries
iii) On the basis of research findings, to scrutinize alternative options to mitigate the impact of producing ethanol on sugar industry and to present methods and strategies through which the sugar industry and ethanol industry in two countries could be sustainably managed.
Research Questions
i) What are the factors affecting ethanol production in the United Kingdom and Pakistan respectively?
ii) What are the possible impacts of Ethanol production on the sugar industry in UK and Pakistan? And how changed level of ethanol production will have or will not have any impact on the sugar industry in the United Kingdom and Pakistan?
iii) What are the available mitigation alternatives to reduce or eliminate the impact of Ethanol industry on the sugar industry in the UK and Pakistan and how Ethanol production and sugar production can be made sustainable and viable?
Hypothesis
H1. Ethanol production in the UK and Pakistan from the sugar-based feedstock faces a potential Sugar-ethanol conflict.
H2. The Sugar-ethanol conflict is likely to impact the sugar industry adversely, affecting the growth of ethanol industry in the future.
H3. Inadequate appreciation of the challenge by the industry managers has led to the adoption of insufficient mitigation measures in the sugar industry.
