Sub-Editor for Queen's Diamond Jubilee publication

In June 2012, Her Majesty the Queen will celebrate her Diamond Jubilee alongside her 60 years as Head of the Commonwealth. To mark this memorable occasion, the Royal Commonwealth Society has appointed Henley Media Group to produce their commemorative tribute to The Queen and Commonwealth. This distinguished book will look back over the past 60 years of the Queen’s life and her role as Head of the Commonwealth, and will look forward to the Commonwealth of tomorrow. This coffee-table-style publication is edited by Robert Jobson, the award winning Royal Reporter, and Jennie Bond, former BBC Royal Correspondent. The publication is being funded through advertising and sponsorship secured by Henley Media.

We are looking for a sub-editor to work on a contract basis between now and mid-January. You will be required to check the editorial content - approximately 30,000 words - for:
Grammar
Readability – ie is it too ‘technical’ or suitable for someone with limited knowledge of the Queen & Commonwealth?
Emphasis – do you think the right amount of emphasis has been placed on the right things? Eg. has the author spent two paragraphs writing about what the Queen was wearing at an occasion, but just mentioned in passing her meeting with Nelson Mandela.
Flow and repetition – ensuring the text flows well and is not too repetitious, keeping the reader engaged at all times.
Fact-checking the content

You will be able to work predominantly from home, but must be able to come into the office - based in London, EC1, if required.

All editorial should be subbed by mid-January.

To be successful, you will need to have previous sub-editing experience, ideally on a similar publication.
