Facebook Page help claim username / custom url

I set up a new facebook account and a new facebook page but mistakenly set the username I wanted for the page as the user account username. Now I changed the user account username to free that up for the page username but when I went to set that username as the page username it now says username not available! But it is available surely as no one else is using it apart from me. Would appreciate someone helping me resolve this.
