Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
I need to setup a sort of "single point CDN" where I have a fast web server setup to serve cached static content (images, css and js files) backed by an "origin" (in CDN terms) meaning AWS S3. Basically a customized asset server.
My thought for this was to setup nginx to proxy pass+cache to an s3fs mounted S3 filesystem.
We have a separate site http://www.bootstraphero.com that is generating (and managing) the files on S3 so there is no need for explicit cache invalidation on the asset server - standard nginx frequency of use cache invalidation should be fine.
Thoughts + Requirements
- I realize this is a little proscriptive I'm open to other setups with the goals of keeping admin on this server to a minimum
- Server needs to be an SSL endpoint
- S3FS strikes me as potentially unstable - if nginx could serve+cache static files while acting as a pure reverse proxy that would be better (but I wasn't sure if this was possible)
- This would be an Ubuntu (latest) server setup from Digital Ocean (just like the ThemesForBootstrap) server
If you could let me know an estimate of how long / if you think this is a good approach I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Mike
