Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
I am the Academic Manager at an English language learning platform, responsible for our educational materials and tools for students studying for an English level test for immigration and university purposes.
We are in the process of replacing the user interface for our 25 Speaking mock tests. This means we need to redo the audio that the student hears. This audio consists of an 'examiner' introducing each part and asking them questions. This audio comprises many short mp3s. Attached is a PDF showing how this works.
I have already been to a local studio to record myself asking these questions (conducting speaking tests is something I did as a teacher a lot). I have tracks of questions for each mock test, plus some additional phrases for transitioning between parts. That is:
- 25 x 3 minute (approx) question tracks: the questions of the mock test (unedited)
- Additional 10 minutes (approx) of connecting phrases and introductions (unedited)
Total unedited audio: 85 minutes (approx).
All of this audio needs to be broken down into short mp3s. That is:
- each mock test broken into 25 individual question mp3s (25 mock tests total, so 25x25)
- connecting phrases mp3s (approx 30 mp3s total)
- Total edited mp3s (ranging from 2-10 seconds): 655 individual mp3s approx
Specifications:
- All mp3s trimmed with almost no margin.
- all audio normalised/levelled to be roughly similar
- all audio de-essed and EQed for intelligibility but also 'pleasantness-to-the-ear' (the voice (mine) is quite sibilant!)
- breaths and mouth sounds removed as much as possible
- mastered for use with headphones, laptop speakers, phone speakers (our users use all types of devices)
- files named and organised into folders for each mock test, and a folder for additional content.
I will add that I am not a total novice when it comes to recording - I used an acoustically dampened booth and a pop filter. However, it is to be expected that these recordings will fall short of the standard produced by a professional voice actor. I am aware of this and have reasonable expectations.
In terms of timeline, we would like to have this by 5th December, but I appreciate that by the time we speak and agree on the project, this is going to be quite tight. This deadline can be pushed back a little; we can discuss further.
I would love to have a call at some point next week to discuss details further. Let me know when works for you. I am away Friday (tomorrow) but otherwise available 09:00-18:00pm GMT and am based in the UK.
To summarise:
- Please let me know if the proposed timeline is realistic
- Let me know when you'd like to meet next week. We can figure out how long this will take I hope!
Thank you for considering this project.
Speak soon,
Paddy
