Description
Experience Level: Expert
Hi!
I am publishing a book titled "Stand Back to Grow", which is about helping overwhelmed business owners transform their companies, so that it can work without them. It has been written as a novel to make it a fun experience and it is a page-turning book thanks to co-author Jeff Cox, a best-selling author (The Goal and a few others).
Here is a short summary of the book:
Bob Bingham is a talented engineer who started his own company that has gone from a bright beginning to stagnation. As well as trying to fix the poor performance, Bob is involved in the details of everything that happens in the company, from sales to accounts to fixing machinery. His marriage to Emily is failing because of the long hours he works.
Aside from Lena, his operations manager, he feels that his staff are incompetent idiots who “just don’t understand”.
Totally overwhelmed, his attempted suicide fails.
A half-hearted, unprepared attempt at a staff meeting is disastrous; Bob has an acute anxiety attack and is hospitalized for several days.
On his return, Lena comes to him with a list of issues, and Bob is frustrated that she hasn’t handled these herself. But she reminds him that she had tried in the past and Bob had become grouchy about it.
With help from Moe Strickett, a straight-talking investor who also becomes his mentor, Bob begins to step back. He learns to delegate, install systems, document procedures, set up core values, implement KPI’s and train and involve staff. He learns that, far from being idiots, his staff have hidden talents and novel ideas.
Part way through Bob’s journey Moe had given him a challenge that in a year’s time Bob would be able to take Emily on a two-week vacation… Bob meets the challenge and on his return looks forward to a new business venture.
This is how the book starts:
Chapter 1
Who Has The Time To Buy Rope?
Bob Bingham glanced at his calendar and saw that the appointed day of his own funeral would occur in less than 72 hours, but realized he had not as yet bought the rope with which he intended to hang himself.
"Oh nuts," he said.
He jumped up from behind his desk and went to his office window. Parting the blinds, he peered outside. The sky was dark. The hour was late. And he had no rope.
He had already paid for his funeral in advance and made all the arrangements. So, in Bob's mind, there was no turning back. He had to go through with it. In any case, he reasoned, he was gone already. His business was killing him. Yes, he was still breathing, but he had no life – except for the business, which was his life. And he hated it.
*
The book will be published in March 2024, so still some time to go, but I want to have things ready in advance.
The budget of £100 is not the expected price, but something had to be put in that box and the fee will be agreed.
In your response, please provide examples of your previous work.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Regards,
Michael
