Experience Level: Expert
We are looking for qualified person(s) who is able to travel to El Fasher, North Darfur, Sudan and provide training services in writing radio news and communication crises. The training will be for five (5) days in early April in El Fasher, North Darfur, Sudan.
Qualifications:
1- Someone has professional international journalism expertise, training experience on reporting, writing, TV, Radio and media communication and coordination especially in conflict-stressed societies.
2- Someone has field experience with especial expertise of journalistic knowledge, a deep understanding of the importance of media professionalism and its role for crisis management, democratic development, and a capacity for innovation.
3- Able to prepare training kits/documents and materials for the training workshops.
4- Able to deliver lectures and train groups of local journalists on how to do journalistic investigations, analysis and how to authenticate information and report crisis in the conflict zones.
5- Able to travel, deliver lectures and train locals.
Requirements:
6- Topics to be covered in the course:
A. Writing Radio News:
• Essential skills of writing for Radio using simple story-telling techniques, vivid imagery
• Clip Analysis and Snippets of recent recordings
• Introduction to different genre writing styles from features to trail to news
• Write short radio talks, links, trails
• How to write for Voice
• Edit radio scripts to make the listener friendly
• Field recordings and in-studio audio products
• Use portable Mini-disc Recorders
• Post production – Download and edit using Adobe Audition program
B. Communicating Crises:
• Basic rules and principles of communicating crises
• Develop practical concepts to prevent potential damage to organizational image in covering/reporting crises
• Working through language and speech in crises situation
• Journalists right in an interview
• Structures for communicating crises
• Editorial contacts in the event of false reports
• Taking control in dealing with the media during crises
• Use of case studies to illustrate above
8- Training Methodology will comprise of a variety of training approaches and should include plenary sessions, Power Point Presentations, Field Exercises and Group Sessions. The training mix should ensure participants have both theoretical and practical experiences during the training.
9- Training Materials should include:
• Sound bites from previously broadcast material for some of the plenary sessions
• Radio scripts from previous events
• Power Point Presentations
10- Language of Instruction: English and knowledge of some Arabic.
11- Travel expenses and accommodation are covered.
