The idea of Just Peanuts began when I met a woman Matan Mallam from Northern Nigeria who recently lost her husband. She was struggling to support her family and keep her children in school. Life was not only unbearable for her, but was almost impossible. I could not turn my eyes away from her predicament and was compelled to assist her by setting up a small social entrepreneurship business to produce organic peanuts. Following positive reactions from my EMBA 2016 colleagues about the peanuts, I scaled up production and employed an additional four widows to wash, dry, and roast the peanuts. This important social enterprise case study has these questions on Targeting/Positioning- The focus is to target UK market; should Just Peanuts target main stream UK consumers? Or Should we target the Nigerians in Diaspora (Nigerian UK citizens about 5 million), or both main stream UK citizens and Nigerians British? Should we focus on Organic? Or both Organic and non (processed)/flavoured? What kind of packaging should we use? Should we include the social element or impact (Just Peanuts with a Story) on the packaging? What will be the ideal price? How to develop supply chain? Should we look at Nigeria Market as well?
The case study should answer the following questions:
1. Or Should we target the Nigerians in Diaspora (Nigerian UK citizens about 1 million)?
2. Target both main stream UK citizens and Nigerians British?
3. Should we focus on Organic? Or both Organic and non (processed)/flavoured?
4. What kind of packaging should we use?
5. Should we include the social element or impact (Just Peanuts with a Story) on the packaging?
6. What will be the ideal price?
7. How to develop supply chain?
8. Should we look at Nigeria Market as well?
