Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
I am looking for a marketing person to complement my content creation. I write a lot about the environment, but also technology, the arts - especially photography, film, and business.
I have a long track record and picked up plenty of contacts.
Like many creative people I am not very good at selling myself, I find it very difficult to break off from writing something to call someone and sell my skills – I have an extensive portfolio, web and print, of what I have done. Here's some examples of my environmental work: www.brightgreenpr.co.uk/writing.htm
I want someone who is good at calling people (or networking at events) up and finding out what they need and closing deals. This would not be cold calling as I don't believe that works, but warmish (maybe lukewarm) calling of all the people I have signed up to my database and contacts list who receive my emails. Being enthusiastic about the green sector would be a bonus.
Being a freelance myself, I would be more interested in setting tasks: time management, when to do them would be your affair. I am interested in finding someone able to work on own initiative, imaginative and forward-looking, with their own ideas. I'm quite happy to set up online events to invite potential prospects, eg a free webinar on promoting green technology (I feel many greentech companies fail to utilise media properly), for example.
I have a budget of £100 to start off with, to see if we can work together. How much work that covers is to be agreed – I'm thinking of 4-5 hours?
Looking forward, I would expect to agree a monthly amount of work and let you get on with it. Obviously if you clinched some good deals then bonuses would be in order.
It astounds me that there are content creation boilerhouses (you probably know who I mean!) who charge an arm and a leg for 15 mins of badly-written nicked copy, where that same fee would get an hour or more of my high quality original work. I don't see why we can't take some of their market share.
If you live in or near London it may be an advantage. I often go to upmarket business events where one is “pre-qualified” by actually being there and I can usually get in another person, which often works out well in terms of finding interesting potential clients. I often never get round to following up properly. A marketer I respect says it normally needs 6 or more interactions before someone will buy something from you and I think she is right.
In summary, if I find the right person, it would be an ongoing partnership, which I hope would be financially and professionally beneficial to both parties.
