Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
PROJECT: New company name for a UK-based language learning start-up
Business Description:
Our startup company's core product is a six-day residential English language immersion programme that takes place throughout the year in a 4-star English countryside residence. We will eventually offer other languages. The model sees 15 intermediate to advanced level learners (mostly corporate professionals who need to improve their english conversation skills for business) living alongside an equal number of native English-speaking professional people - not english teachers, but people from various countries and backgrounds (a mix of people in careers/have life experience). Our aim is to create a 100% English-speaking environment, where the learners are exposed to many different accents, US, Australian, Irish, Scottish, Canadian, South African, etc and have a chance to practise their English in real-life situations. Again, our USP will be no teachers, just native english people...one person per learner.
Over 6 days, learners will be exposed to over 70 hours of the language through a very structured schedule of one-to-one sessions, group activities, conference calls/mock meetings and presentations, meals and an excursion.
It is an innovative and proven approach to learning and gaining confidence in a language over a very short amount of time, and we want to offer this approach here in the UK to shake up the language learning system.
Nowhere else nationally will a learner be guaranteed such exposure to conversational english (or their target language of choice).
Brand Positioning:
We're an innovative company wanting to shake up language learning for intermediate and advanced language learners. We are unique in our industry in the UK and want our name to differentiate us from our competitors. We don't teach grammar or vocabulary. We're all about gaining confidence in a target language through full immersion in a quality English venue from native english speakers from different backgrounds and countries, not teachers of english. We want to be the go-to company for anyone who wants to improve their conversational ability and confidence in any language - this is our mission. It will be a premium brand, our main market being corporate companies in Europe and the UK with budgets to send their employees on courses for language development, although our programmes are open to the general public as well.
Name:
We are looking for a powerful name that captures our spirit as philosophical and tactical disruptors with the language training industry, providers of an intense, immersive, accelerated approach to language learning that is far ahead of it's competitors in the UK market. The new name must work specifically in the UK and Germany and France, as well as across the whole of the EU community where the English language is required for business.
The name must:
* be evocative or experiential
* be memorable and easy to pronounce (not difficult for Germans/French to pronounce)
* convey that we a premium brand/attract our target market
* must make clients feel good about the company
* be bold, dare to be different (but not too different...)
Competitor Analysis: Here is a list of my main competitors in the UK. They are not direct competitors, as no one offers the same business model as we do, however they are my closest competitors. They offer residential language courses in country venues to foreign professionals, however, they use english teachers and offer significantly less one to one sessions and language contact time. The ratio of students to teachers is on average 3 to 1.
Linguarama
Britannia Language Centres
Immersed English
Dialogue-Angloscene
Executive Language Training
Trebinshum House
Lingua
Communicaid
We are looking for a name that is bold, emotionally engaging and thought provoking. Evocative or Experiential names would be ideal. Not for the sake of it though, but because a company like ours is calling out for it.
Some inspiration of evocative names from the services industry:
Medical Educational company name - 'Antidote'
Healthcare company - 'Pegasus Healthcare International'
Language eduacation company - 'Rosetta Stone'
Experiential names:
Twitter
Alta Vista
Thanks very much,
Ian
