Help needed with raising Adsense revenue with a Wordpress website

Hello,

I run a football blog that does quite well, and brings in a decent amount of hits. I have implemented adsense a few months ago, and have been pretty disappointed with the results so far.

The website was created in wordpress and uses the EvoLve theme. This theme is great for most of what I want to do, but has problems with the adspace, namely it doesn't work! The current ads on the site are just placed in widgets, and they don't really stand out. There is certainly scope to add a header somewhere, and the right side of the pages have a ton of unused space that simply can't be used at the moment.

I am happy with the appearance of the website, and I don't think there is a lot of design work that needs doing, just looking to increase revenue be it through adsense or another method.

This isn't a job that should take long, and if anyone has questions I'd be happy to answer.
