Help monetizing blog

I have recently set up an amateur travel blog with Typepad which I would like to monetize (for a little bit of extra cash, not as a business launch) through Google Adsense, Blogvertise, Payperpost, possibly affiliate marketing programs etc.

I require someone with experience in this field to point me in the right direction in terms of traffic generation, widgets, best programs to use etc (there is a lot of information out there, and it's a bit hard to know where to start) and help me put these in place.

This would be one of those jobs that are easy for the experienced and baffling for the uninitiated, so I do not anticipate this should take more than a few hours of any experienced freelancers time (may suit an internet savvy student).
