Front End Developer

We are a small digital agency based near Bradford on Avon and we are looking for a front end developer on a contract basis. We currently have a .net developer and a graphic designer, and as the owner, I have been handling all of the front end work. However, because I also handle the sales and marketing, I need to stand back and put more time in managing the business and take on someone that can handle the volume of work that we have. This would start on a daily basis but could quite quickly develop into a full time role although I would consider a long term freelancer. In terms of location, I need someone that can work from the studio which is in a beautiful converted factory alongside a dozen other creative businesses and a first class cafe - it is a fantastic location to work.

Our work includes two of our own bespoke products, an eCommerce platform and an eLearning platform. The former has been developed as a multiple vendor application and we currently have four sites to be developed. Our eLearning platform has users that include Mercedes, Tesco and Citroen. We also work on promotional sites for Hilton Hotels and Orange. Our long term plans are to have two or three 'house' products that I can continue to market and then to broaden our services with our other clients. More importantly however is a new five month project to develop a children's educational social network where we do need urgent support.

In terms of the job role, you will need to be an experienced HTML developer, ideally with some experience of .net although this is not essential. You will also need to have a very good understanding of jQuery as we utilise this in most of our designs. You will need to be used to working with CSS up to CSS3 and with masterpages or dynamic web templates. Some understanding of flash would also be good although this is a development rather than a graphic design role. We do not currently work with any open source software as all of our business is bespoke but on saying this, some understanding of Wordpress may be useful. You will also need to be experienced in the integration and styling of all the social networks as we work closely with our clients on all things digital. Any other experience would also be considered but is not essential.

As explained briefly above, the job role would initially require two or three days per work but this could easily become full weeks within no time at all. Our long term aim as a business is to widen our digital services and to build a long term central team, of which we already have the designer and the programmer. We are also looking to appoint one or two apprentices through the government Skill Set programme so if you fit in, you could quickly become part of the fittings! Hourly rates are flexible and will be commensurate with your experience.
