Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
I urgently need help with an Excel problem (24-36 hour deadline).
I need someone with excellent Excel Skills who can deliver on time (no excuses) and who understands the basic Bills of Material (BOM) structures.
The data is confidential, so I have used household rooms and objects in the same format as my data which makes it easier to think about. Whoever gets the job will need to give me an explanation of how it was done, so that I can copy the formulas and apply it to my confidential data.
I have a reasonable level of Excel understanding, but this is beyond my skill level.
The idea behind the problem is that if all the items in the room are compliant, then the room is compliant. (If all the parts in a widget are lead free then the widget is lead free).
It gets more complex as there are several sub layers or levels within the BOM and the data is not in order so Lookup’s will not work.
Lets imagine the rooms (there are several).
Room 1 is the lounge, Room 2 is the bedroom etc.
The lounge contains the following: settee, chair, TV, fireplace, carpet, coffee table.
The bedroom contains the following: bed, carpet, wardrobe, dressing table, TV & bedside table.
The chair in the lounge contains the following: leather, castor, wooden frame, cushions. - the castor has a: wheel, pin & swivel.
The double bed in the bedroom contains the following: base mattress, drawer, leg, castor. – the drawer has: material, glue, wood, nails.
Hope this is clear enough.
If all my parts in the drawer are lead free, then the drawer is lead free.
If all my parts in the double bed are lead free, then the double bed is lead free
If all the items in the bedroom are lead free, then the bedroom is lead free.
I need to know the status of each room.
If you can get this working, we could then go further and calculate the percentage that each item is lead free and the percentage of the room which is lead free and produce some pretty graphs, but this may come later as an additional job.
I’m still trying to clarify the finer details, so I am putting the job up now and I will be able to give you a clearer description later.
Only accept if you have time to look at on Saturday.
Please tell me how much it will cost, how confident you are that it will work, are you available to discuss and when you plan to deliver.
If all goes well, I may still have a job on Tuesday.
A draft version of the file is attached – don’t work if its confusing, I will explain.
I’m based in the UK.
Sunday would be ok, but I would prefer a Saturday completion.
Many Thanks
