Email appending

I have created a programme which iterates an individual’s email address from approximately 10 known email address patterns e.g. firstname.surname@, firstname_surname@ etc.

The email is created from inputting the users first name, surname and company URL. I’ve previously used an API to verify the email address but this has mixed results. I understand a solution that actually sends a mail to the mailbox to determine its validity is required (I'm not sure if this means a physical email or some other check).

What I need now is a solution whereby the programme I have created to generate the emails actually SENDS a test email to the host account to verify its authenticity. I assume I simply need a link from the newly created emails (iterations) to some sort of server/array of servers which tests the validity of the email address and returns "OK", "FAILED" etc. I believe this is called “email append”. For example there may be 10 possible email iterations created and only one will be valid. However to establish which one of the 10 is valid, all emails will need to be tested.

The application I have is created on Oracle (http://apex.enciva.com).
