Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
We need to build an e-commerce website that uses a live feed from a distributor of replacement parts.
All of the products and stock levels will come from the live feed, but the prices will need to be marked up by one of two percentages based on the first few characters of the product code.
The live feed can be accessed via either a MySQL Server or a Microsoft SQL Server. There is also the option of accessing their data through FTP, although they don’t recommend using this as the data can go out of date.
We have a data sheets on the live feed, along with example usage.
When a customer visits the website, they will choose the manufacturer of the part they require from a drop down menu, which will then present them with a second drop down menu listing the different models.
This site is very similar to what we are looking for:
http://simplylamps.co.uk/
The site will be based in the UK, and all prices will include over night delivery to mainland UK addresses using DHL. We can also deliver to the rest of Europe, but we will need to charge extra delivery for that. We would also like to offer a 9am delivery for an additional fee.
We would like to have a shopping cart, and to have the facility to offer certain customer discounts when they log in, and also top offer a loyalty scheme.
We would like to use WorldPay to handle payments, but may also add PayPal. We may also want to add other products from other distributors in the future.
We would like our products to be available on Amazon, eBay and Google Shopping.
We would prefer to use an e-commerce system (e.g. Magento, ZenCart, Shopify or Oscommerce) customised for our needs so that we can keep the system updated, but we would be willing to look at bespoke systems.
The site will be hosted with names.co.uk, either on their Linux hosting which supports PHP 5.2, Ruby & Python, or on their Windows hosting that supports ASP .NET 3.5 & ASP Classic.
We can supply page layout designs either as PSDs or HTML if that will help, and we can supply all of the graphics. We would like to use some jQuery menus and animated logos to improve the feel of the website.
