NOTE: Please read entire post before commenting or asking a question already answered below, thank you.
I need a digital inker and colourer to join my creative team for a sci-fi action horror comic that will be submitted to Image Comics for consideration of a monthly release, with a total of 75 issues approx.
You will NOT be required to do sketches and the majority of the work will be inking and colouring the covers on a computer (as the comic itself will be B&W), with occasional assistance inking a few issues when required if we are running behind.
The ideal candidate should be more concerned with having their name on an Image release as a contributor rather than getting paid large per-page rates. If you are likely to say something like;
“Inkers and colourers rates are usually $60+ per page, so you are not being realistic about your budget!” then you already know you are not the right person for the job and should not bid.
The right candidate should have a positive attitude towards the project’s goals, as well as the skills for the job. Understanding the volatile economics of the comic book industry is a must. Knowing that production of several issues will be required before breaking even on the investment, should also be understood as the reason for our immediate low-budget. Ultimately if the comic does well, you will eventually be paid well in comparison.
Help us make this comic successful and we will pay much more than we are offering now when that happens, but until that happens you must be prepared to absorb some of the financial risk involved by taking a pay cut to begin with. There will also be the opportunity to colour all pages for special releases in future if the comic launches successfully and other work on future projects, these jobs will be paid at a rate you will find more preferable when the time comes.
The ideal person for the job would be someone who is excited and passionate about comics, with a desire to be involved in telling an exciting story, and a need to be recognised by the industry for their skills.
This is our maximum budget (until initial sales):
1 Issue Digital Inking & Colouring Covers: $25 (total for front and back)
Full Issue B&W Digital Inking (25-30 pages): $135-$160
These are start-up prices which will be re-negotiated according to the success of the comic and actual sales. They are set to minimise financial risk long enough to create the first few issues and build interest to help increase future sales.
The bid for this first job is inking and colouring the front and back covers of issues 1+2, so anyone interested bid the full $50 and add any notes or points regarding anything else mentioned. Be sure to include your full 25-30 page issue B+W digital inking price within the above budget. This price will be for at least the first four issues but no more than the first six issues where some level of acceptable sales might be achieved thereafter.
The turnaround time for inking & colouring the front and rear covers would need to be three days maximum for each issue, for B&W inking 25-30 pages would be 2 weeks maximum for each issue.
This job is likely to start in about three to four weeks time.
Bidders please bear in mind that by bidding you are not just bidding on a single job but offering to join our creative team to work on this comic series until its very last issue, number 75, which will be in a little over six years. So a six year part-time commitment to the project will be required because changes to the creative team after first publication will not be permitted by the publisher.
As always with our posts skills matter not work experience. We don’t care who you’ve worked for, as long as you can do the job to industry standard and won’t mess us about by changing your mind afterwards. So, samples will be required to prove you can do the job and some positive feedback on previous work preferred.
This position is open to worldwide bidding.
Thank you for reading and good luck.
