Website set up help & advice (maybe wordpress?)

I would like to set up a sports based website and would like some help with what I would need when buying the hosting. As well as this help I would need help with the overall website design on wordpress as I have no idea how easy or hard it is but I have a reasonable idea how I would like it to work.

I will disclose more information to the bidders as at this time its quite hard too.
