HI Anna
Another site design to add to your list - called www.free-postcode-maps.co.uk. We need this site designing to fit a screen resolution of 1024x768. We require 2 page layouts as follows:
Main Page Layout
The focus of this page is to to display a Google Map as large as possible on the page with nice clean design around it. The Google map we will be displaying can be seen at: http://gmap2.darrenberry.co.uk/ and this needs to be middle of the page and as large as possible above the fold. However - other elements I want on the page are as follows:
1. Site header graphic relating to Postcode Maps (red as the main colour) with the site name in a clean professional font. (I was thinking about a big badge/ star on the graphic with 'Free' in it but I'll leave the design stuff to you :-)
2. Space for intro text on the page. This will be no more than an H1 Title and 4 lines of text.
2. We need a search box that Darren will utilise to search for town names and so on on the map. This will have to allow someone space to type in a place name and then underneath it display all matching results. We don't know how many results will need to be displayed but maybe if you coould design something which ran down the left hand side of the map? If you can create the grpahics and space to do the search and display the results, Darren can put his code in there.
3. We need the ability for users to share the page quickly and easily through social bookmarking (linkedin, digg, twitter etc etc). This needs to be quite prominent.
4. The Google Map obviously as large as possible
5. Navigation on the left. I would like a div of size 120x90 above the actual navigation where I can put some advertising code.
6. The navigation at the moment will be: Home; Towns; Postcode Areas; Counties; FAQs; About; Contact; Terms
7. To the right I need 2 graphic ads doing. The top one (pointing at the Google map) will be selling postcode wall maps from map-logic.co.uk and should say "Buy a Postcode map of this area for your wall!" and the second will sell Postcode data from http://www.postcodeaddressfile.co.uk/ and should say "Official Postcode Lists and data for your business"
8. Can you also add a Comments board beneath the map to allow users to leave comments on the page. I will be duplicating this page so the comments board will need to operate independently for around 250 pages. Is this OK? The comments page will obviously grow and can go below the fold of the page.
9. I also want to add an email subscription form to the site. We have this already set up and I can create the form to pop up over the site but we need something adding to this page to encourage people to subscribe. The message I want to give is "Subscribe to our site and win a UK Postcode Atlas worth £50" - this is the product listed at http://www.map-logic.co.uk/postcode-maps/postcode-atlas/gb-postcode-atlas.html. If you can come up with a graphic or something that entices people to sign up that would be great.
I have attached a (very) rough layout I was playing with when trying to work out what goes where. I only send it so you can see what I was thinking but I am sure you will come up with something far better!
Blank Page Template
The second page will be for things like "About Us", "Terms and so on. The height of the page will need to be dynamic as our terms are quite long. Basically I see this page the same as the one above but without the search box, bookmarking, Google map and comments pages. The ads could stay although the map ad won't point to anything.
I hope all this makes sense Anna - can you give me a price and time scale?
Thanks
Richard
