Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
The concept for the site is crowdsourcing, which means that the best estimate of many people for an event is more likely to be closer to the actual figure than the 'experts'. For this site, an event is a financial forecast, and is always a numerical amount. Examples are Q2 GDP, July Unemployment rate, number of new jobs created/lost in August, earnings per share estimate for a company for their Q2 results, and so on.
I would like to put forth just a few basics from a site perspective, and I don't know enough on how the site should be technically built, nor how much, so over to you as the technical expert on how best to translate the site needs below (in plain English) into technical requirements, and quote.
1) will start with the USA market only, for USA forecasting, follow up site will be a .co.uk for the UK market.
2) each event should have information added and displayed on the event page, so that the person estimating can have information on that event, and suggest using Google Alerts as feeds. Example, an event can be, Estimate Q2 GDP, people should be able to see where to enter their prediction, and also be able to see as many news articles, analysis, etc. to base their estimate, so a feed of Alerts/RSS or whatever is great. I think each event should have its own page, so that we have a good number of pages to display ads, and to show the information.
3) Users should see the current prediction, and be able to enter his/her prediction. Example, Q2 GDP, the person sees the total predictions (for example .5% growth), which is a sum of all current predictions divided by number of predictions.
3) on each event page, need ad space, which is either Adsense, a banner ad, or maybe an ad from a sponsor if I can sell this. So need the option to put in one of these three options.
4) would be nice a blog, so that I can let people know how accurate the predictions were.
5) that's it! just the other, standard stuff (Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, How it Works, Advertise) as other pages.
Any other features that you suggest are welcome, such as social workings (FB, Twitter, LinkedIn).
