Changes/Fixes to a php / mySql site

We found an online script by developers abroad that we liked and wanted to use. We contacted the developer as it did not do everything we wanted and it had some features on there we wanted removing.
They quoted us for the modifications which we were happy with and agreed to go ahead. They told us the modifications would take 10 working days (we had asked for quite a few modifications but we hadn't expected 10 days, but we liked the script so put up with it).
7 weeks later and after a lot of chasing and different broken versions back and forth we have given up. We have paid the developer and got a working version of the site but there are still some changes to be made that either the developer refused to do or we were just tired of fighting for them.
If you know php and mySql well the changes we are asking for should be straight forward. We are developers ourselves but not in these technologies. We could probably work it out but it will take time, time that we just don't have.
We need an expert to spend a day dedicated to the site who we can process all the changes with us.
An example of something we would require changing...
At the moment users can used an advanced search feature to find results. There are about 10 filters they can select from.
The problem is it only takes into account the last filter that you select. So the user thinks they have filtered on 5 fields and that the results they are looking at match those 5 fields. When in fact they have only filtered on the field that they selected last.
Our (ex) developer tells us this is by design and will not change it.
We just think this is crazy and is a fault they are refusing to fix.
You get the idea of the kind of thing we are looking for.
This is a very urgent job. We are looking for someone to start yesterday as we were supposed to go live a couple of weeks ago.
We are looking for someone in the UK so we are on the same timezone, someone who can communicate with us on email, MSN and over the phone when we need to confirm and clarify points.
Apologies to developers overseas but once bitten, twice shy.
