Experience Level: Entry
Estimated project duration: 1 - 2 weeks
I'm looking for someone who can give me a list of spring bulbs to purchase. Your recommendations should provide a sequence of flowers from January - early June, as my perennials fill in. Please recommend specific genus / varieties.
Preference for individuals familiar with the climate of South-East England. Hardiness zone 9b / H3-4. Raised borders with loamy soil; on a base of clay. Average drainage, except for the corner near the deciduous tree which is dry.
EDIT 28 July - additional photos to demonstrate where plants will be dormant during this time period (indicated by blue cross), and additional information about the size of the borders / size of the planting area
1) One border is in full-shade until May. The total border length is 6m and depth is 75cm. Blue crosses indicate where plants will be dormant; approx 3 - 4sqm of planting space in total.
2) The other border receives part-sun from March onwards. This border is 4.5m in length and depth 75cm. Blue crosses indicate where plants will be dormant; approx 2 - 3sqm of planting space.
3) The 3rd area 'tree border' joins the two. The front receives part-sun from late-April onwards. Approx 2-3sqm of planting space.
My planting style is architectural.
Please recommend ONLY naturalising bulbs that I can plant once and will reliably flower every year.
Colour scheme: Red, Pink, Orange, Blue, Black, White
I love
- Snakes Head Fritillary
- Tulips
- English bluebells
- Irises
I hate
- Muscari
- Yellow daffodils
- Parrot tulips
See attached pictures of my garden; blue crosses indicate the plants which are dormant in summer
