Description
Experience Level: Expert
I need an architect to design a 1) kiosk and 2) bicycle parking + workshop for the National Art School in Sydney.
Precedent: inspired by architect Mies van der Rohe
------------------------------------------------------------------------
PART 1: A mobile Kiosk (an OBJECT that expands, or partially expands + partially stationed)
Provide three internal interconnected spaces:
1. for storage;
2. for preparation;
3. for display and point of sale.
- Kiosk interior 50 sq. meters max when open. Covered external space 40 sq. meters min.
- Provide a covered external space for associated use considering paved/unpaved ground surface as well.
- Point of sale to take place at a window/open counter only.
- Use entirely orthogonal geometry - no curves or diagonals.
- Primary material employed will be masonry (floor + wall) and timber – internal floor and roof structure in timber.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
PART 2: Bicycle Parking and Workshop
A. Parking:
Provide free-standing, self-supporting, floor or wall mounted bike parking stands for 30 bikes (min.).
B. Workshop:
Staffed by one person.
Provide three interconnected spaces:
1: Store (min. 20 meters squared)
2: WC (for use by staff only – one toilet and one basin)
3: Workshop (min. 60 meters squared)
(Provide: 10 meters long x 600mm wide, 900mm high workbench, 3 bike repair stands, wall hung tool
rack/board; a tire pump zone.)
* - note: bench can be continuous (10 meters) or split into smaller bench elements for example 3 x 3.3 meters
elements.
Think of the project as a series of architectural situations:
- An outdoor court for people and bikes
- A workshop-front
- A sequence of working bench/stands
Rules:
- The ground has to be excavated. Consider ramp and subterrain architecture.
- Use entirely orthogonal geometry - no curves or diagonals. The roof plane may be angled.
- Assemble the building using planes, folded planes, and linear elements only.
- Primary material to be used is to be masonry and timber. Concrete slabs are to be used for the floor.
Timber can also be used for joinery and doors and windows. Lintels may be used over door and window
openings. Bike racks may be in metal.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Required project components:
- Site plan @ 1:500 showing surrounding context, boundaries adjoining buildings. Circulation for bicycle path and
footpath must be resolved and represented in drawing.
- Circulation diagram (I have attached an example).
- Sketchup models of kiosk, bicycle parking, workshop.
- Plans, elevations, sections (long and short) of each @ 1:100
I can send through the Sketchup file of the National Art School site context that I have already modelled.
Let me know when is the earliest this can be finished (need ASAP).
I can discuss budget privately.
Send me any questions.
