Description
Experience Level: Expert
Estimated project duration: less than 1 week
Industry: Publishing/Journalism
Design details: This is a graphical abstract to be used in a journal paper. I drew a sketch on a piece of paper. Basically, I want this sketch to be converted to a graphics. I attached 2 examples from the journal so that you can get a feel of what I am looking for. I think I should briefly explain about my paper. There is a technology called PRO (which is placed at the center of the sketch) which takes two fluid streams (one is saltier than the other). By mixing in a smart way, it produces electric power. In this paper, we analyzed PRO from an economic sense, measuring cost of produced electricity in $/kWh (that is why the sketch has bubble text $/kWh?). Because it is an electricity producing technology, we compare that with wind turbine (drawn at the top of the sketch).
As previously mentioned, two fluid streams are needed. The saltier stream is called “draw” and purer stream is called “feed.” In this paper we thought about different options for the salty stream (seawater from ocean, brine from desalination plant, produced water from shale gas fracking and the Dead Sea). I want each options to be drawn in a simple, cartoon-like representation. For example, the Dead Sea has salt crystals floating over the sea or a sailing boat on the ocean. Each of these options is connected to PRO by a pipe.
The PRO system (a box) is divided into two compartments and a membrane in the middle. Fresh water passes through this membrane (shown as arrows in the sketch).
The underlined texts are texts that I want to remain in the final product whereas other texts are there to explain components and the color of the sketch.
Also this design/color scheme is very arbitrary. I am open to suggestion and improvement (as long as preceded by discussion).
The requirement for the size is 80mm width by 40mm height. Although this is a requirement, the image could be made bigger if it is absolutely impossible to fit all those items.
Ideas for the visual style: Sketch attached
Where the design will be used: Journal paper
Extra notes:
