Create a maps of Europe using vector polygons

I need to create a vector map of Europe (it could be reduced to just EU member countries) in Adobe Illustrator, using just straight lines in -45, 0, 45, 90, degrees. Basically it means that all curves would be reduced to straight lines, just as in the sample below (circle represented by straight lines). All countries should be represented by its own shape, so they can be coloured separately. I am looking at two differentness illustrations, one more reduced, the other more precise.
