Allama Griffin Jones Sharar was born a poet, even as a young boy his talents did not go unnoticed as he became the poet of his school.
At the age of 27 Allama Sharar saab’s poetry made publication on the front page of the Veer Bharat, a popular Daily News Paper in India, as a result he received great notoriety and praise from all around the world. He wrote 10 books, including 8 extensive volumes of Urdu poetry.
Allama Sharar saab came from a strong Christian family, he was the son of Rev Barkat Masih, who served in Raiwind/Raja Jangh and District Gujranwala.
Allama Sharar saab himself was a simple man, with strong morals. He dedicated much of his life to serving his community through his work. He held the title “Saraj-e-Suchen” and won the renowned Urdu Academy award. He won an additional 8 awards for his distinguished work and he also received a glowing tribute from Prince Charles and Buckingham Palace officials on behalf of the Queen Elizabeth (Queen of England) for his famous poetry.
Allama Sharar saab was a gifted speaker with flare, personality and a great sense of humour. He remained a witness of Christ throughout his life and during the most fractious times in his homeland continued to preach unity and solidarity.
Allama Sharar saab’s name will stand as a mile stone in the history of leading Urdu scholars of the 20th century.
