Description
Experience Level: Entry
We are looking for a font designer / type technician to complete and fix Romanian and Hungarian language support in an existing font file.
1. Base font
Font: Times Now (Semi Light / Regular – .ttf file provided)
Format: .ttf
Context: a previous freelancer already drew some extra glyphs, but they are not correctly associated to their Unicode code points, so they don’t behave properly in normal text (Word, InDesign, web, etc.).
2. Scope of work
A. Hungarian support
Verify and fix all Hungarian characters, uppercase and lowercase:
á, é, í, ó, ö, ő, ú, ü, ű
Á, É, Í, Ó, Ö, Ő, Ú, Ü, Ű
Tasks:
Add the glyphs to the Times Now TTF from the
Correctly map each glyph to the proper Unicode value and name.
Ensure these characters work as expected when typing on a standard Hungarian keyboard / input method.
B. Romanian support
Verify and fix all Romanian characters, uppercase and lowercase:
ă, â, î, ș, ț
Ă, Â, Î, Ș, Ț
Tasks:
Make sure all these characters exist visually in the font (or create them if any are missing, respecting the existing style).
Map them correctly to their modern Unicode values (not legacy cedilla forms).
Confirm correct behaviour in real text (copy–paste, search, etc.).
3. Technical expectations
Keep the current design of the glyphs where they already exist. No redesign is needed unless something is clearly broken (please flag any major issue you find).
Maintain full consistency with the existing font:
same weight and stroke contrast
correct baseline and vertical metrics
good spacing and kerning around accented letters in real words (e.g. “România”, “Târgu Mureș”, “gyönyörű” etc.)
Ensure the updated font works correctly in:
Windows + Microsoft Office
Adobe apps (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
Web usage via @font-face
The tools you use are up to you (FontLab, Glyphs, FontForge, etc.).
4. Deliverables
Corrected font file with fully working Romanian and Hungarian characters
Required: .ttf
Nice to have (optional): .otf version as well, if easy for you.
A short changelog / note:
what mappings you fixed
what extra characters you added or adjusted
(Optional but helpful) A simple test PDF:
a few sample paragraphs in Romanian and Hungarian to visually confirm everything renders correctly.
5. What to include in your proposal
Short description of your experience with font editing / type design.
1–3 examples of similar work (adding diacritics, CE/EE language support, Unicode fixes, etc.).
Your fixed price for this job (not hourly).
Estimated turnaround time.
6. Licensing
We will provide the font file under our existing license.
You may not resell or redistribute the font. Your work is limited to editing and returning the modified font to us for our internal use.
