Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Estimated project duration: 1 day or less
Information for the business: We want 2 cartoon illustrations to highlight the correct size and type of bag to pack on our coach tours
Industry: Lifestyle/Travel
Design details: I have been discussing the thorny issues of coach sizes and “how many passengers can you fit on an 83 seater Double Decker”
Well the answer is clearly 83 seats = 83 passengers isn’t it?………………………………..Or Is It? Because it all depends on how long they will be away for and what equipment they need to take and how big their bags will be…!
All the groups that we send skiing by Air have learned that they have to pack under 15kgs with Ryanair, or under 20 kgs with Easyjet and their cabin bag sizes must conform to strict dimensions…..!
To protect ourselves against another Overloaded Bags situation, I suspect that we ought new to be defining how big a case/bag should be (and maybe we spend some money getting some photos and instruction leaflets designed and printed…!)
Such a leaflet could be quite graphic and amusing….red-faced spinster teacher in tweed suit (or similar), handbag and clipboard, looking frustrated and amazed at the size of the cases the kids have brought and a consternated driver exclaiming “this will never fit” in a speech bubble with outraged parents and kids looking on (seaside humour art style)
This information could also be included in “Ski Presentations” or “Music Presentations” that we supply to schools…..
Because it is a serious point treated humorously it will not be seen as a negative, just as a “funny” (and let’s make sure that we are not the kind of idiots they were portraying..!)
We could have pictures/photos of soft packed bags laid out on the ground looking impossible to get into the space…with a before and after picture showing that because they are soft-packed bags they go in!
Contrasted with hard-packed bags – Before and After showing a large number left on the footpath that won’t fit.
It may need someone to go to a tame local school to do a photo-shoot on the day they are leaving…
Target audience: Parents, teachers and pupils
Messages to communicate through the design: Such a leaflet could be quite graphic and amusing….red-faced spinster teacher in tweed suit (or similar), handbag and clipboard, looking frustrated and amazed at the size of the cases the kids have brought and a consternated driver

Ideas for the visual style: Seaside Postcard style
Things to avoid: Saucy dialogue assocaited with Seaside Cartoons
Extra notes: Required for 1-2 weeks time
