Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
Design details: Want to develop a design for a bar belt buckle with strength characteristics of climbing gear that has the ability to dismantle so that buckle can be retro-fitted into the finished sewn webbing elements of the belt. This can be done with something like a removable barrel bolt slotting through the buckle frame. These types of buckles are often rated to 2500lb breaking strain and may be used in emergency air evacuation.
Ideas for the visual style: See the finish of the Cobra buckles at Austriaplin.
Things to avoid: avoid sacrificing functionality for style.
Urls to draw inspiration from: austrialpin.at
Extra notes: In terms of appearance the buckle should be similar in shape to the first pic attached a 'smokejumper' / parachute style buckle. in construction the buckle should be similar to the third pic [Austrialpin Cobraframe] attached with a sliding bar plus the removable barrel bolt. The second pic attached show an Austrialpin D-ring cobra buckle, if you look at the d-ring section it is secured with a silver pin/rod that the belts fabric wraps around. For the idea is to get the belts manufacture and retro-fit the buckles. Whilst this item must be strong and functional it is also a fashion item in a sense so it must look the part. Google 'riggers belt' for ideas on style and more images. The buckles material would be Stainless Steel or Aluminium.
