Project Title:
Photonic Coatings Simulation in ANSYS Lumerical with BSDF Export for Honeybee (Grasshopper)
Project Description:
I'm seeking a freelancer with advanced experience using ANSYS Lumerical to simulate photonic coatings for architectural glass. The goal is to design, simulate, and extract optical properties of a multilayer nanostructured coating, and then export the results as a usable BSDF file compatible with the Honeybee plugin in Grasshopper for daylight and energy simulation.
Project Scope:
Design and simulate multilayer photonic coatings (e.g., using TiO₂, SiO₂, Al₂O₃) on glass substrates
Use ANSYS Lumerical (preferably FDTD) to model spectral behavior (transmittance, reflectance, absorptance) across the solar and visible range
Post-process simulation results to generate a Radiance-compatible BSDF (.xml) file
Ensure BSDF is suitable for import into Honeybee within Grasshopper for use in daylighting and energy simulations (e.g., with EnergyPlus)
Required Skills & Experience:
Strong proficiency in ANSYS Lumerical (especially FDTD or STACK for optical coatings)
Experience in modeling photonic nanostructures, thin films, or metasurfaces
Ability to generate and validate BSDF data from simulation results
Familiarity with daylighting/energy simulation workflows using Honeybee, Radiance, and EnergyPlus
Attention to detail and ability to document methodology clearly
Preferred (Bonus) Skills:
Knowledge of Dubai or hot-arid climate solar performance considerations
Experience integrating custom optical materials into BIM or parametric tools
Please include examples of similar past projects or simulations, particularly where you’ve exported BSDFs for use in architectural or environmental design software.
Best Regards,
JOJO
