Projection Mapping Animator Required - Halloween Experience

Objective
With the world still battling the COVID-19 pandemic Halloween this year will be very different, with children unable to go trick-or-treating. We want to create an engaging non-contact Projection Mapping experience that entertains kids and families on Halloween.

Brief
We will map onto the front of a house, transforming it into animated Halloween scenes. Trick-or-Treaters can pass by and use motion sensors to trigger a series of ‘trick’ or ‘treat’ animations. The animations should have an audio element to add a layer of storytelling and to catch the attention of people walking past the house.

Inspiration
The inspiration for this project comes from popular Halloween displays. We want to use similar techniques with mapping and animation, but make the whole experience interactive.

Look & Feel
The target audience for this project Is essentially families with kids of trick-or-treating age, so the display should be spooky but not scary. To achieve this, we’ll take inspiration from TV shows like Scooby doo and Adventure Time.

Narrative
The front of the house is mapped and transformed into ‘The Treat Shack’. The Treat Shack has two states - the normal looking Treat Shack, and the Haunted & spooky Trick shack!

Treat shack (default state) - A big sign Reads ‘ The Treat Shack’. The front of the house is made of sweets and treats! Lollipops hold up the windows, and the gravel becomes smarties. In the windows are Gummi bears, waving and smiling happily. The doorway is a sugar skull that speaks to people passing by.

Trick schack - The word ‘Treat’ is crossed out with the word ‘TRICK’ scrawled over it. The Lollipops become snakes and the Gummi bears become were-bears, snarling and trying to break out of the window. The sugar skull loses it’s decorative features to become a more sinister, scary skull!

Trick or treat Animations
Passers by can interact with the installation using a motion sensor to trigger a ‘treat’ or a ‘trick’. The sugar skull door guardian prompts them to wave their hand over the sensor (hidden in a pumpkin on the wall), and the animation is selected randomly.

Pizza
Treat - Fresh Pizza just for you! Pizza slices zoom around and burst into golden fragments of delicious, cheesy pizza!

Trick - PIZZA MONSTER a slice of pizza comes to life, dripping melted cheese like slime. They grow arms and tear off peperami from their body to make eyes. A monstrous mouth appears and they stagger towards the viewer menacingly.

Burgers
Treat - Tasty burgers & fries spin before your eyes.
Trick - The burgers become snapping demons and the fries turn into spiders! They crawl and snap towards you down the path.

Ice cream
Treat - delicious ice-cream swirling animations with sprinkles and glitter.
Trick - the ice cream turns into dripping melty ghosts!!

Sweets
Treat - glittering delightful unicorns candy lollipops lovely things.
Trick - The sweets turn into vampire bats with evil fangs and eyes and flap towards you!
