GIS Travel Time Mapping for Different Transport Modes in Sheffield.
Job is to use Accession software to produce maps in png, jpeg and pdf format demonstrating travel times using different modes for each part of the area concerned (Brightside, Shiregreen, Firth Park and Wincobank). You will need to use each area as a centroid and isochrones to show travel time and distances to workplaces and Meadowhall. It will also help to indicate the Meadowhall Centre on the map.
12 Options to map:
Brightside – Travel times to employment areas by walking
Travel times to employment areas by public transport
Travel times to employment areas by car
Shiregreen – Travel times to employment areas by walking
Travel times to employment areas by public transport
Travel times to employment areas by car
Firth Park – Travel times to employment areas by walking
Travel times to employment areas by public transport
Travel times to employment areas by car
Wincobank – Travel times to employment areas by walking
Travel times to employment areas by public transport
Travel times to employment areas by car.
You will need to consider locations that are commutable from study areas by PT, cycling and walking. E.g., Lower Don Valley, Northern General Hospital as well as Meadowhall centre itself bearing in mind timing. By using Census travel to work data, the travel to work flows can be established, giving the number of commutes by timeband calculated for each area.
Additionally, there should be a table summarising the data for each map, e.g., jobs accessible within travel time thresholds (suitable and meaningfull thresholds need to be chosen) for each area. Each map should have a clear colouring scheme, north arrow, full legend (including paramaters used in the calculations – time of day, walk speed, max walk distance to access PT), suitable scale and a marker point over the Meadowhall Centre.
The following LSOAs make up the study area:
Shiregreen & Brightside
ward: Firth Park ward: Both:
Sheffield 007A to D Sheffield 011B Sheffield 013A to B
Sheffield 010A to D Sheffield 013C to E
Sheffield 011A Sheffield 020E
Sheffield 014A to F Sheffield 022E
The work should be completed as soon as it is practicable.
