Convert a Word 97-2003 document with Macros to Word 2007

I have a 97-2003 worksheet full of written macros that do not convert properly to Word 2007. I have tried most conversions but the macros do not come out teh same way (comes out horizontally in the ribbon as opposed to vertically), some macros do not work (debugging session starts without finding the destination needed) and when I save the document in 2007 some macros just disappear... My guess is that some macros need to be rewritten to be compatible with 2007 ...
