Tenant and landlord dispute

Good Afternoon,

I would like to have some information and what to do in my situation.

My partner and I are living in a studio Flat that we do really love because of a really noisy pub terrace we decide to leave because I do not get any sleep at night before 1h30 even later sometimes.
I became quiet depressive about it and after few complain to the council and the police and the pub nothing had change we just decide to leave.
We do have a contract till February 2015 with an agency, but after few month the property been sold and our new landlord never gave us a new contract to sign .

I went to this new agency where we find a flat and he told me that legally we should of sign a new contract we the new landlord as they do no use agency.
They refuse to let us go like that even if we told them a month in advance and want they want us to pay till we find someone to replace us or if we don't find anyone till February. I know that they register to a new agency to find tenants as well but nothing happened yet.
