Description
Experience Level: Entry
I am looking for an experienced freelance paralegal or legal caseworker to undertake a short piece of work in Cardiff.
A number of potential witnesses have already been identified and are readily accessible. No tracing, surveillance or persuasion is required.
The work would involve:
* Interviewing witnesses individually and independently.
* Obtaining their first-hand account of what they personally saw, heard or experienced.
* Taking accurate notes without leading or influencing the witness.
* Preparing a clear written witness statement/account for each person.
* Allowing each witness to check, correct and approve their statement before signing.
* Collating any relevant supporting documents provided by the witnesses.
* Organising the completed material into a clear evidence file.
The matter concerns a complaint involving alleged conduct by a serving police officer. The person undertaking the work is not being asked to reach conclusions, prove allegations or take sides. Independence and accurate recording of the witnesses' own evidence are important.
The witnesses are in Cardiff and I anticipate approximately 1–3 days of work initially.
Applicants should have previous experience of interviewing witnesses and preparing witness statements. Experience in civil litigation, police complaints, regulatory investigations, professional discipline or similar evidence-gathering work would be particularly useful.
Please provide details of your relevant experience, professional qualifications or memberships where applicable, your availability to attend Cardiff, and your proposed day rate.
