I want to start a liquor distillery in NYC manufacturing a tea infused tequila. TEAQUILA! I want to know what barriers to entry exist, and how much everything costs so I can enter it into my business plan.
I'm currently working full time, so I'm able to fund the work, but it's hard for me to find time to work on it myself.
Some basic questions I'd like answered:
Can I use the name Teaquila?
Is there a cost to make the name my property?
What kind of licenses do I need to start brewing?
How much do the licenses cost?
Where do I locate the applications for these licenses?
I heard there was an incentive for nanobreweries to source from NY farmers, is this something I should consider, or is it cheaper to produce without the help of the program?
Is NYC the best place to start this business, or should I consider CT or NJ instead?
Is there anything else I should know about this venture? I have a great drink that friends and family adore and are willing to help make a commercial product, but not before I have a solid business plan. If you have experience writing business plans or working in liquor law it would be preferred.
