Part Time Financial Controller
We are the brand owner, bottler and distributor of premium beverage spirits. We are looking for a Financial Controller. Although the business has plans to grow, this is not yet a full time role. We currently estimate three half days per week but this is likely to increase. We need someone that can support our group accountant in the following areas:
1. Cash
a. Proactively and rigorously manage cash using the spreadsheet tools we have developed for this purpose.
2. Sales
a. Manage the sales ledger through HSBC Invoice Finance (electronic link) - about 12 transactions per month.
b. Assist sales with credit reference applications to HSBC Invoice Finance (electronic link + telephone progress chasing)
c. Assist sales order processing/production control with financial matters such as customer credit issues etc.
d. Note that both certain customers place orders and pay through their custom electronic interchange platforms and book keeping must be able to handle these
e. Identify, manage and attend to agency and sales commission commitments
f. Support with customer cost/selling price spreadsheet tools
g. Support with bills of quantity and stock management
3. Purchases
a. Run the purchase ledger (about 12 transactions per week) plus staff expenses
b. Assist sales order processing/production control with financial matters such as supplier payment issues etc.
4. Payroll
a. Process weekly payroll for temporary and part-time production staff (typically 8) along with setting up new arrivals and dealing with departures
b. Process monthly payroll for salaried staff (typically 2) along with setting up new arrivals and dealing with departures
5. Accounting
a. Work with the group accountant who is responsible for preparing the management and formal accounts of the business.
b. Bank reconciliation
c. Some transactions are in different currencies £, $ Eu - manage the system exchange rate settings
d. Reporting on key performance indicators to be identified.
e. Provide assistance with other group company book keeping and accounting processes as may be required from time to time
6. Important characteristics of the role include:
a. Familiarity with the Sage Line 50 accounting package
b. Expertise with the Microsoft Office range of tools including and especially Excel spreadsheets and Outlook
c. An ‘Out-reaching personality’ so as to contribute to positive supplier and customer relationships in our money management matters
d. Recognition that:
i. The immediacy of the business requires 'frequent touches'. Attendance at the company premises is required and several short attendances are preferable to whole days per week.
ii. This is presently a small firm where everyone may be reasonably required to contribute to the range of tasks required to achieve sales and delivery commitments.
iii. We are growing the business and understanding of the implications of rapid growth in small companies is important.
