I’m looking for some help with some regression analysis with a view to arriving at a formula that will predict how long it would take an average cyclist to complete a given cycling route.
I think it’s a job for an econometrician. (And if you happen to like cycling too, so much the better). I don’t think it’s too complicated but it’s a little too complicated for me and I’m on a short deadline.
We have around 20,000 results or times from about 50 cycling events. For each, we know the time (dependent variable) and some data about the routes (independent variables) they cycled such as:
Distance
Height gain
Distance climbing
Average gradient of climbs
Max gradient
The data is in Excel ready to be analysed.
What I would like is…
1. The regression output and formula for predicting Time when we know the independent variables
2. I’d also like to give a score to actual times based on how they compare to the predicted time. The idea is to tell people how there time stacks up against the predicted average time for a route. The scale I have in mind is that 1:1000 people would expect a score of zero (these would be the fastest times) and 9:10 people would expect a score of 25. I’d like a formula to give me the score based on the scale described above, when we know the actual time and the predicted time.
Do you think this is the kind of thing you can help with?
If so, please can you let me know the costs and delivery times?
Happy to answer any questions you have.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
