Outlook 2010. Our workstations are having problems downloading files with attachment

Attachments with large files attached (example a 6 MB file) are not downloading. Send/receive freezes. If I close outlook and re-open, sometimes that will help. But we need to fix this. We use SonicWall VP, server 2008, workstations have 8GB ram, new computers/server.
