Looking for HR advice on a resignation recieved

One of our employees sent an unfilled resignation letter with reasoning on the letter to myself on Friday, asking me to print for him, this was never formally handed in - note I am apart of the senior management team & have authority within the company..

We have accepted his resignation, very confused as to why it was sent to print & as expected the employee has backtracked - we would like to move on from this employee regardless - we would like an hour to sit down with somebody to see where we stand on this & gain valuable input.
