Description
Experience Level: Intermediate
The business : Healthcare data visualisation and analytics
Industry we're in : Software / business intelligence / data science / analytics
Industry we focus on : Human health / life sciences
Overview:
We require a diligent online researcher with great communication skills to help us with several research projects spanning different disease areas across EU e.g. breast cancer and cardiovascular disease in the human healthcare systems of the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Germany. This requires both a research inclined individual with great initiative as well as someone who can deliver on detailed data sets and report on findings. You must be fluent in English and be able to handle the native languages with ease.
General Project Requirements:
The work is mostly desk research across relevant government, journal, healthcare, trial, publication and congress sites etc.
There are some translation efforts implicit in this (like explaining what the native terminology for cancer treatment is) but it's not about translating large blocks of text - the emphasis is on finding data sources, and it helps if the person understands the local language/healthcare systems in achieving this.
Hands on data collection/cleaning will mostly be done by another team so the initial 'target' research piece can be as little as ~2 days (16 hours) work per country, with just a few hours here and there later on to check the outputs from the other team and provide advice on how to interpret some of the data.
You’ll need a fine eye for detail and consistency. The role often requires working within templates (with pre-set headers and stipulations for what can go in each column) and the data you compile must be quality checked before sharing.
Our team is English speaking and we’re based in the EU and India so work to the UK/CET time zone and we require the researcher to be in Europe, within 1-2 hours of GMT and to have experience living in European countries and their healthcare systems.
You’ll need to help advise on standardised inputs so that things like names, titles, credentials, specialties and address standards etc. are all ‘aligned’ and there aren’t multiple variations of the same thing.
We use Excel/Open office to regiment data for processing by our data management software so you’ll need great excel skills and general internet / MS office application proficiency.
We will provide templates to work in (pre-set headers with requirements for what can go in each column).
Experience with handling data from the web into various other apps while keeping it ‘clean’ from formatting quirks is a bonus. Experience with using text editors as part of this process is an advantage.
The role requires web based research and occasionally phoning/messaging people in the target country to follow up on information queries.
Communications :
The work requires a lot of iterative check-ins so it's essential that the candidate is a 'pro' at digital communication with chat/calls and marking up/commenting on docs for quick review. Calling while screen sharing using several check-in meetings each day is often essential to a smooth running project. Summarising findings in preparation for calls will help our meetings be efficient.
Experience in using screen share applications and conference call apps is required (we’ll be screen sharing and doing remote group calls.) The apps we use include Skype, google hangout, slack etc.
Experience in using document sharing/editing approaches such as google docs is required, as is experience with cloud storage and sharing approaches e.g. box/dropbox
Next steps:
I usually do a quick skype interview to ensure the role/project is clear and make sure both sides are happy to proceed, and if that's all good I ask the candidates to sign an NDA in order to be able to share more client related information.
