Develop some missing functionality of an old database

The database we are working from is on FileMaker Pro 13 but was built in 2004/5 but there were some functions that were not activated and a couple of fields which don't work and for whatever reason at the time no one chose to get them fixed.

There is no one here anymore who was involved with the database development or design so we aren't really sure why.

Our database collects results and calculates points for a handful of competitions we run.

But there are one or two fields which are inactive (greyed out) which if active would allow us to amalgamate our processes and use just one database with this one. The function we want to work is relationship issue. The fields should allow you to search for a contact and a breed and insert a couple of dates.

There may be a few small other issues we encounter with regards to other functions we need, but this may be a case that we simply aren't using it properly, as I said there is no one here who was involved at the development stage and what they knew we not passed down the chain.
