Consultation - health and safety policy -Editing -Implementation

On The Dot Removals Ltd is a Removals company with most of its work currently focused on the domestic market with a small percentage in the commercial market ie office moves and moving goods for businesses. Director and founder Josh Smith employs a total of 5 staff consisting of a bookings manager, two team leaders and two porters. All self employed other than the bookings manager. We also use temporary self employed staff to cover work when more regular staff are sick or unable to work and subcontract work to other Removals companies when our capacity is full. The business is operated remotely with vehicles kept outside the team leader’s homes with Josh and the booking manager also working from there own home address.

We have collectively assessed the risks to health and safety and discussed the implementation of what we see as reasonable and practical control measures. The main risks currently have been identified as driving, heavy manual handling and slips / trips.

We are looking for consultation on our assessment of the risks aswell as advice on how best to ensure our suggested arrangements will meet legal statutory requirements and demonstartes Reasonable Care has been taken for our insurance to be valid should a claim arise. We would be open to investing in further training if on consultation it was recommended. We are looking to grow over the next 5 years providing storage, post tenancy cleaning, as well as commercial and European moves. We are looking to form a dynamic health and safty policy that can be adapted over this period and some one who can consult on its implementation over time.


We have thus far downloaded a template Health and Safty policy from HSE website. Using this as a template;

1) Outlined a statement of general policy. Identified specifically the highest risks areas.

2) Identified what we would define as reasonable care and arrangements to reduce risk including inducting / training staff with what we would define as reasonable cost and time to a business of this nature and size.

3) Suggested individuals within the company responsible for different areas.


We have more specific questions related to our currently policy and the implantation of necessary training.
