I'd like to meet a smart multi-skilled to developer to build a prototype of an exciting and much needed gmail plugin. (See: http://code.google.com/apis/gmail/gadgets/)
The plugin will need to use a number of the API capabilities offered by gmail - and you may need to do some detective work or experimentation to identify the correct ones.
You'll also need to build a 'simple-ish' server side component, with a database, to process the information generated by the plugin, and to provide the plugin with data.
The information type that needs to be stored: selected details of certain emails (sender, certain bits of body,
subject, read/unread status, and a few other bits which will be discussed when appointing a candidate).
Preference for server side technology is for php, python or ruby and MySql/nosql running on Linux.
Currently, we won't really need to access the Database directly (the app will use it to determine what actions to take). The database may be queried by admin users only, so doesn't need a front end (yet) - although if convenient, something like phpMyAdmin or xataface may be used.
I suspect this prototype will be 2 days - 2 weeks work, depending on your inventiveness and how 'prototypey' the prototype is. Ideally, we'd have something working in a couple of days to get a feel for the key issues, and then spend 1-2 weeks tidying it up for a beta trial.
