Analysis Paper
Assignment:
Write a paper that dissects a particular work of art. Describe its composition in terms of the art elements that we have discussed and read about in the textbook. (line, space, shape, etc.) Make sure you give facts about the piece, and not just your opinion. Stay focused on the research that you do and keep it about the piece of artwork and not just about the artist. You might include a little information about the artist if that information lends insight to the piece of art.
You may submit the paper whenever you like.  I will take it as early as you like, but I will probably just hold on to it until I get several in so that I can to sit down and read several at one time.  I had rather you turn it in early as to wait until the last day and make it a rush job.
I am not really picky on anything except information.  I don’t care if you use a particular format.  I do want to see that you have researched the piece and found out some new and interesting things about it.  You can write about the pieces historical significance.  You can write about the pieces composition and content.  Do, however, stay away from personal opinion of a piece as the main topic of your paper.  Make sure the paper does not turn into a biography of the artist.  Remember, I want the paper to be about a “work of art” NOT the artist.  Length is not important but I would say at least 3 pages and not over 6.  Include an image of the piece being talked about.  Also include a title page with your name on it, and a page to cite your references that you used in your research.  DO NOT COPY anything from any of the sources.  That is plagiarism and is frowned upon and will not be graded.  Write it in your own words.  Use 12pt font (Ariel or Times New Roman) Do not copy and past any part of your paper. Do not use exact wording as your source unless you are making a cited quote. Plagiarism is a mistake made many students, sometimes as an honest mistake, but often as an attempt to avoid having to think for themselves. DO NOT make this mistake. If I find examples of blatant plagiarism, I will give and automatic “0” for the paper.
Length:
3-6 pages of information
Title page – include the title of the paper, Date, Your Name
Work Cited page – I am not real concerned with what format you use for your paper. MLA is used most often, but the main thing is that I can find your information. Make sure that you use good sources and remember that everything on the internet is not fact. (Especially if it ends with “ .com”) REMEMBER: Using .edu or even .org sites are a lot better than .com sites for research. Some .com sites are ok, if they are reputable, as with The Museum Of Modern Art web site.
Picture Page– Include a picture of the piece of art (sculpture, painting, architecture, etc.)
Format:
Use either Arial or Times New Roman font.
12 pt font size
Double space
Due Date: The paper is due April 23,2012.
