10 productive things to do in an hour
It’s that time of year again. This weekend the clocks go back for winter and the nights start drawing in. The good news is, we all get an extra hour in bed. Yay! But what if, instead of more sleep, we choose to use our extra hour much more productively? How much more could we achieve in our day? We’ve put together a quick and fun list of 10 productive things to do in an hour that will motivate you to hop out of bed and kickstart your day.
1. Take a yoga class
Why not start your day off with a bend and stretch! With your extra hour, you could take a Yoga class to lift your mind, body and spirit, and get you in the right mindset for the day ahead.
2. Start learning a new language
Learning a new language can open up a world of possibilities! Why not download a language learning app like Duolingo or Babbel and use your extra hour to start your journey to whole new culture.
If you start now, you could be on your way to fluency within a year!
3. Write a guest blog post
Guest blogging is one of the fastest ways to grow your personal brand and the digital reputation of your business. Why not approach a high authority website in your niche and pitch your idea for a guest blog.
If you’re not a writer, don’t worry! You could also hire a blogger to do the work for you.
(Hint: PeoplePerHour LOVE to receive useful and relevant guest blog pitches.)
4. Volunteer your time
Volunteering an hour of your time to help out a local charity or not-for-profit organization in your area may not seem like a lot to you, but it will mean the world to them!
If you’re in the UK, you can find some fantastic volunteering opportunities online, and in some cases, you won’t even have to leave the house.
5. Prepare a great breakfast
Let’s be honest, how many of us really have time to eat a superb breakfast in the morning?
With an extra hour on your hands, you could use the time to whip up a breakfast feast! Treat yourself and your loved ones to a healthy start to the day.
6. Catch up on your accounts
Okay, so it’s not the most fun way to spend your spare hour but every small business and every freelancer needs to keep on top of their finances. If you’ve neglected yours for a while, then now is the perfect time to catch up.
If it’s a job you truly hate and you’d rather do almost anything else, then why not hire a professional accountant or bookkeeper to help.
7. Read a book (or at least start one)
There are literally thousands of amazing books out there for entrepreneurs and business owners. And, if you’re not a reader, apps like Audible or Nook Audiobooks were made for people just like you! Reading is a great way to get the most value out of your time.

10. Sleep…
You could, of course, use your extra hour to catch up on some much-needed sleep.
If you’ve been burning the candle at both ends, or not getting enough zzz’s, then another hour in bed is probably the best thing you can do for your physical and mental health.
We’ve given you ten things to do in an hour that could really help to boost your productivity as the nights start drawing in.
