Description
Experience Level: Entry
Kind of writing: Speech
Num. of words: not sure...10mins
Topic: humans, who or what are we really?
Tone: Instructional/Educational
Extensive research needed: no
Extra notes: I will do all/most of the research and the material that goes with it. I just need someone to put it all together. It is for a TedTalk I'm doing in February so copyright and plagiarism are my biggest concerns.
I do not want to answer the question (humans, who or what are we really?) necessarily, but want to leave people thinking about it by coming up with a story or example that explains each point well.
Basically exploring the following ideas:
1. We are just a collection of carbon atoms arranged in a very specific way. We consist of carbon atom once part of stars millions of lightyears away as well as carbon atoms once part of dinosaurs and Shakespeare... Atoms are mostly empty space - you can fit the whole empire state building into a matchbox if you took away all the space.
2. Are we who our passport say we are? You have UK passport but what if you were born in the US. Are you American or British? What if your mom and dad have different passports from you...third culture kids? Donald trump wants to ban all the Mexican but where is his family from? They were all immigrants at some point..
3. Are we a sum of our experiences/upbringing. How can good and/or bad experiences shape us to be who we are today? Identical twins who were separated at birth...are they completely different people as adults because hoe they were raised. What about people who had a sex change? What about people who have been in a coma and woke up not remembering anything? What about people who are unsure about their sexuality?
4 Would be good if you can suggest one or two more
