Job Description

Hi there,

We are using a webrat to gain certain information from the web (ie. our prices and what they are being sold for per dealer/customer we have). This information is all coming onto seperate spreadsheets (per dealer), roughly 30 of them. I need to find a way to get all of that information from those spreadsheets onto one sheet, and one tab only.

Not only that, but as the product names are being advertised on their websites differently, each product title is always phrased slightly differently.

Each individual dealer spreadsheet has the product in column A in excel, and the price in column B. eg. we have a Novation Nio (a product name), one customer might have it as Nov Nio, and the other might have The New Novation Nio. But all should have a few words in common. So we need that informatio to arrive on a spreadsheet with the Dealer Name along the horizontal and the product name down the vertical and the relevant prices in each cell corresponding to the dealer and product.

I have attached 3 example spreadsheets, i can amend it so they are both xls or csv.

Many thanks,

Will
Focusrite Audio Engineering

I hope to hear back soon.

You could simplifly this a lot if you generated product codes so that the information coming back from the dealers were a combination of dealer code, product codes and product prices, that could then be used to produce the correct product names locally in your spreadsheet. This would overcome and recognition problems and make the code that integrated the incoming data into the final spreadsheet much simpler.

From where do I get the dealer Name?
Is it possible to get all the valid product names? Is it Ok to provide the consolidated file as a csv, from the list of input csv files, which can be saved as xls file.
