since childhood, drawingmore...for just £10 per hour I will draw you as a manga/comic book character, or design you your own.
(one character typically taking 8 hours to complete)
since childhood, drawing and creating characters have always been my biggest passions, and the day that I discovered manga and anime... lets just say that there was no going back. I have since dedicated myself to honing and perfecting my own individual style, working over a broad range of projects, one of my proudest, being chosen to do the cover illustration for Alan Springer's 'e-kidz: mission to cyberspace' children's novel, as well as working on many more of my own concepts. I love what I do and working freelance at the moment is great. it's about more than just the money to me. there's a personal sense of pride with me and every drawing I complete. weather that be an original character created from my own imagination, a drawing of an already known popular character or real life photo redrawn in a manga style. art is my passion, and whatever work it is that you need I aim to make sure that I provide you with my best work every time, from start to finish.
How I work:
Firstly, I mainly focus on characters, not backgrounds. So all drawings will be drawn against a flat colour shaded background with the characters being the main focus. I may, with photos however, include pieces of background/props if they directly alter or tie in with the composition of the person in the photo (e.g. A man leaning on a table. I would also draw the table, because the man leaning on just thin air would look silly)
I) If I’m drawing you an original character, I will ask you for a descriptive brief detailing just how you want the character to look visually, so that I can start envisioning things how you see them. For example Things like height, hair type, hair style, facial features, clothes, body type and colours are what I need before I start work. I ask that you be very clear and concise with what it is you want, so that we both have an understanding of what needs to be done and I will be able to get to work sooner. If you’re not exactly too sure what it is that you want, however then just some basic details will do, and I will let my imagination do the rest. I just ask that you give me as much details as you possibly can so I have some sort of starting point.
If I’m drawing you from a picture and turning you into a comic book/manga character. Ill ask that you just provide the one reference picture that you want me to work from, and that you choose one of two styles for me to work.
Style 1: I will draw your picture in a more realistic way. It will look less exaggerated and will pretty much look like a copy of the actual photo, just digitally painted on Photoshop.
Style 2: I will draw your picture in more of a manga style. So features like the eyes and facial shape will be more exaggerated. It will still be you. But it won’t be as much of a spot on direct resemblance like style 1, as I’m using the manga/anime style.
II) Once you’ve chosen what you want, with all the details given, I will produce a rough pencil sketch and show it to you so that you can have a look and see if there’s anything you want to be changed. You can revise this up to two times.
III) After we’ve agreed that were both happy with the pencil sketch, ill move onto the next stage, which will be outlining the drawing in black. Here is where it will really start coming together and looking like an almost finished product. I ask that you’re 100% fully happy and satisfied with the pencil drawing first before you allow me to start outlining, because once I’ve started this. It becomes very difficult and time consuming to go back and change things.
IV) This is where I will apply the flat colours and start painting the picture with the colour details provided, after which I will show you the picture so you can see if there are any colour changes you would like to be done. Again you can revise this up to two times.
V) This is the final stage where I will add shading and contrasts to the picture and also to the background. This again, is time consuming and difficult to undo so I ask that before I start this final stage, you are sure and happy with the flat colours used. Once that’s done, that’s it :) you now have yourself a finished character.
I aim to have work done within a 5-7 day time period, as i can usually have one character finished to professional standard in 8hours, not factoring in things like redrawing, recolouring etc. (which i do for free with no charge up to four times) but the more details you provide me with and the more you’re sure of what it is that you want, the faster I can get your work to you. So really, 7. days is just the maximum time. The minimum could easily be much sooner.
Thanks, and I look forward to working with you on some great projects.
